Introduction : Bangladesh is an agricultural country. Most of the people here are farmers. Their main occupation is agriculture. Our economy mainly depends on it.

Our land : Our land is very fertile. It is highly suitable for producing good crops. Every year our lands get alluvium when rain or flood water flows over our land. Two or three crops can be grown on the same land in a year. This land also encourages our people to depend on farming more and more. Our lands are the blessings of God for our existence in this country.

Methods of cultivation : Agriculture is the main source of our economy. From time immemorial, Out people have been cultivating the land to maintain their livelihood. Our forefathers cultivated their lands in the traditional method. They use bullocks, plough and spade to cultivate. This method of cultivation still continues. Our agriculture depends on rain water. Farmers have to wait for the rain water and when it comes, they start farming. If it comes late, their farming is belated. In fact, our agriculture is the blessing of monsoon which creates rainfall in our country

Modernization of cultivation : In our agricultural sector, we are still very back-dated. Our lands are fertile but we cannot adopt scientific methods. As a result, we fail to get bumper crops. But now-a-days, it is a matter of great pleasure; we are using the scientific method though at a smaller rate. The mechanized irrigation, rich fertilizer and insecticides are being used by our farmers. Our government has encouraged our farmers to use these. By means of using this new method of cultivation, we are getting better crops. But still all classes of people are not getting this chance. As a result, our agriculture cannot get its expected results.

Our dependence on it : Our existence depends largely on agriculture. It produces food for us. It is the main source of our economy. If any year our agriculture fails, we feel the scarcity of food. We are to import food from other countries then. Again, many people are engaged in farming. It is the main source of their livelihood. Our huge number of people work as day-labours in the farmlands. It removes our unemployment problems. Not only that a large number of people run the business of agricultural products. It is the source of their livelihood. So, this sector must be improved.

Our farmers : Agriculture in Bangladesh depends on the farmers. They run this section. Farmers work day and night. They produce crops on the agricultural land. Because of their incessant work, we get our desired food. These farmers work and satisfy their own hunger as well as others. Thus these farmers contribute a lot to run agriculture.

Their education : The farmers who continue our agriculture lack education. They live a poor life. They do not know standard method to produce bumper crops. Their lack of proper education is the main cause of our drawback in agriculture sectors.

Ways to develop agriculture section : As agriculture is related to our existence, we have to develop it. We must find out the causes of its going back. To develop agriculture we can do the following things:

• Firstly, our farmers must be properly educated. They must have scientific method of cultivation.
• Secondly, scientific method of cultivation, insecticide and fertilizers must be provided to the grass root levels.
• Thirdly, easy term loans should be given to our farmers. Irrigation system and scientific seeds should be supplied to the farmers.
• Fourthly, flood, drought etc. destroy a lot of agricultural products every year. The government as well as other organizations should come forward in this regard so that the farmers can collect their crops.

Conclusion : Our country is agriculture based. We depend on it. we have to work for its improvement. We have to realize that the improvement of agriculture means the improvement of our lives.

ভূমিকা : বাংলাদেশ একটি কৃষিপ্রধান দেশ। এদেশের অধিকাংশ মানুষ কৃষক। তাদের প্রধান পেশা কৃষি। আমাদের অর্থনীতি প্রধানত এর উপর নির্ভর করে।

আমাদের ভূমি : আমাদের জমি খুব উর্বর। এটি শস্য উৎপাদনের জন্য বেশ উপযুক্ত। প্রতিবছর যখন বৃষ্টি বা বন্যার পানি আমাদের জমির উপর দিয়ে বয়ে যায়, আমাদের ভূমি পলিযুক্ত হয়। একবছরে একই জমিতে দুই অথবা তিন বার ফসল ফলানো যায়। এ জমি আমাদের মানুষদের অধিকতর কৃষির উপর নির্ভর করতে উৎসাহিত করে। এ দেশে আমাদের অস্তিত্বের জন্য আমাদের জমি ঈশ্বরের আশীর্বাদ।

চাষাবাদের পদ্ধতি : আমাদের অর্থনীতির প্রধান উৎস কৃষি। স্মরণাতীত কাল থেকে, আমাদের জনগণ তাদের জীবিকা অর্জন করতে চাষাবাদ করে আসছে। আমাদের উত্তরসূরিরা সেকালের পদ্ধতিতে তাদের জমি চাষ করতো। তারা ষাঁড়, লাঙল এবং কোদাল চাষাবাদ করতে ব্যবহার করতো। এ চাষাবাদ পদ্ধতি এখনো চালু আছে। আমাদের কৃষি বৃষ্টির পানির উপর নির্ভর করে। কৃষকদের বৃষ্টির পানির জন্য অপেক্ষা করতে হয় এবং যখন বৃষ্টি হয়, তারা চাষাবাদ শুরু করে। যদি বৃষ্টি দেরিতে হয়, তাদের চাষাবাদও দেরি হয়। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, আমাদের কৃষি মৌসুমি বায়ুর আশীর্বাদ আমাদের দেশে বৃষ্টিপাত বয়ে নিয়ে আসে।

চাষাবাদের আধুনিকায়ন : আমাদের কৃষিখাতে আমরা এখনো পিছিয়ে রয়েছি। আমাদের জমি উর্বর কিন্তু আমরা বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতি গ্রহণ করতে পারি না। ফলে, আমরা ভালো ফসল পেতে ব্যর্থ হই। কিন্তু বর্তমানে এটি একটি খুশির বিষয়, আমরা স্বল্প পরিসরে হলেও বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতি ব্যবহার করছি। ইঞ্জিন চালিত সেচ, উন্নত সার এবং কীটনাশক আমাদের কৃষকদের দ্বারা ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। আমাদের সরকার কৃষকদের এগুলো ব্যবহার করতে উৎসাহিত করেছে। আমরা এ নতুন পদ্ধতি ব্যবহার করে, ভালো ফসল পাচ্ছি। কিন্তু এখনো সব শ্রেণির মানুষ এ সুযোগ পাচ্ছে না। ফলে, আমাদের কৃষি এর প্রত্যাশিত ফলাফল পায় না।

কৃষির উপর আমাদের নির্ভরতা : আমাদের অস্তিত্ব অনেকখানি কৃষির উপর নির্ভর করে। এটা আমাদের জন্য খাদ্য সরবরাহ করে। এটি আমাদের অর্থনীতির প্রধান উৎস। যদি কোন বছর আমাদের কৃষির অবনতি হয়, আমরা খাদ্যের স্বল্পতা অনুভব করি। আমাদের তখন অন্যদেশ থেকে খাদ্য আমদানি করতে হয়। আবার, অনেক মানুষ কৃষিতে নিয়োজিত। এটি তাদের জীবিকা নির্বাহের প্রধান উৎস। আমাদের ব্যাপক সংখ্যক লোক দিনমজুর হিসেবে কৃষি জমিতে কাজ করে। এটি আমাদের বেকার সমস্যা দূর করে। শুধু তাই নয়, বহু সংখ্যক লোক কৃষি পণ্যের ব্যবসায় বাণিজ্য করে। এটি তাদের জীবিকার উৎস। তাই, এখাত অবশ্যই উন্নত করতে হবে।

আমাদের কৃষকদের অবস্থা : বাংলাদেশের কৃষি কৃষদের উপর নির্ভর করে। তারা এ খাত পরিচালনা করে। তারা রাতদিন কাজ করে। তারা কৃষি জমিতে শস্য উৎপাদন করে। তাদের অবিরাম কাজের জন্য আমরা আমাদের কাঙ্ক্ষিত ফসল পাই। এ কৃষকেরা কাজ করে এবং তাদের চাহিদা এবং অন্যদের চাহিদা মেটায়। এভাবে কৃষকেরা কৃষি কাজ পরিচালনা করতে অনেক অবদান রাখে।

তাদের শিক্ষা : আমাদের কৃষক যারা কৃষিতে অবদান রাখে তাদের শিক্ষার অভাব আছে। তারা দারিদ্র্যের মধ্যে জীবনযাপন করে। তারা অধিক ফসল ফলানোর ভালো পদ্ধতি জানে না। তাদের উপযুক্ত শিক্ষার অভাব আমাদের কৃষিখাত পিছিয়ে পড়ার প্রধান কারণ।

কৃষিখাত উন্নয়নের উপায় : যেহেতু কৃষি আমাদের জীবনের সাথে জড়িয়ে আছে, আামাদের এটার উন্নতি করতে হবে। আমাদের অবশ্যই একে ফিরিয়ে আনার উপায় খুঁজে বের করতে হবে। কৃষির উন্নতি করতে আমাদের নিচের বিষয়গুলো অনুসরণ করতে হবে :

• প্রথমত, আমাদের কৃষকদের অবশ্যই শিক্ষিত হতে হবে। তাদের অবশ্যই বৈজ্ঞানিক চাষাবাদ পদ্ধতি গ্রহণ করতে হবে।
• দ্বিতীয়ত, বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতির চাষাবাদ, কীটনাশক ও সার তৃণমূল স্তর পর্যন্ত সরবরাহ করতে হবে।
• তৃতীয়ত, কৃষকদের সহজ কিস্তিতে ঋঋণ দিতে হবে। সেচপদ্ধতি এবং বৈজ্ঞানিক বীজ কৃষকদের দেওয়া উচিত।
• চতুর্থত, প্রতিবছর বন্যা, খরা প্রভৃতি কৃষিদ্রব্যের অনেক ক্ষতি করে। সরকার এবং অন্যদের এ বিষয়ে এগিয়ে আসতে হবে। যাতে কৃষকরা তাদের শস্য সংগ্রহ করতে পারে।

উপসংহার : আমাদের দেশ কৃষিনির্ভর। আমরা এর উপর নির্ভর করি। আমাদের এর উন্নতির জন্য কাজ করতে হবে। আমাদের বুঝতে হবে যে কৃষির উন্নতি মানে আমাদের জীবনের উন্নতি।
